The small cinema in the town of Taverny, closed its doors in 2017. A hard blow for the inhabitants and Florence Portelly, mayor of the town. Studio 207 was indeed still one of those rare city centre cinemas, independent (and not subsidized), which was the pride of these families and other cinema lovers of the rue de Paris. After two years of closure, it’s official: the reopening is announced before the summer. Marc Dingreville looks back on this beautiful collective project.
“(…) An integral part of the historical identity of the area (…)”.
Florence Portelly, mayor of Taverny declared on the announcement of the good news that the project to reopen the 207 counted enormously for the inhabitants of the city, so “its safeguarding had become a priority issue of the municipal project”. Indeed, the small cinema had been under threat for several years. Thus the bad news came in 2018: the Commercial Court of Pontoise placed the establishment in judicial liquidation…
The people of Taverny to the rescue of their cinema
Faced with this threat, the commune is organizing to save Studio 207. A buyer would be willing to participate in its reopening. In addition, the town decided to support the financing of this cultural and solidarity project with 60,000 euros. Regional aid will complete the necessary financial package. Last September, the Commercial Court of Pontoise therefore reassessed the case in a second hearing: the cinema will reopen.
“A diverse program, general public and cinephile “
For the reopening of the cinema, the mayor intends to remain faithful to the history of the 207… No question indeed of an elitist cinema for Taverny: the establishment will propose a cinematographic offer for all audiences (and all means thanks to family and youth rates).
A place where culture for all is diffused…
In the years to come, the opening of a third hall should become clearer. But for the time being, the commune is working to make Taverny’s cinema a convivial and cultural place. One of the ideas would be to involve school children in this project. To do this, we already know that the commune is working with the regional association Ecrans Vo. A beautiful cultural and educational initiative for the cinema of Taverny.
