While the Geneva Motor Show is logically reserved for cars of all kinds, this year’s event offered an opportunity for manufacturers to tackle concepts that are more or less far removed from the automotive sector. This is notably the case for the giant Volkswagen, which took advantage of the event to showcase its contributions to urban micro-mobility. The Cityskater for urban environments
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2019, the Volkswagen Cityskater is primarily intended for use in urban areas, with the aim of solving the problem of the last kilometre that city-dwellers encounter.
With a range of 15 kilometres, the Cityskater weighs only 12 kilograms and can reach a speed of 20 kilometres per hour thanks to its 450W engine. However, it takes about 3 hours to recharge its battery. As for its price range, it should be between 1,500 and 1,800 euros.
The Streetmate, for the last kilometer
Still as part of its strategy dedicated to urban micro-mobility, Volkswagen is offering a brand new moped-type device, the “Streetmate”.
The Volkswagen moped is a fast and practical device. Its 2 kW engine enables it to reach a top speed of 45 kilometres per hour. Its range is estimated at 50 kilometres.
Moreover, the electric Streemate will not be available in France until next year.
The Streemate is mainly distinguished by a 1440 x 2560 pixel screen, installed in the centre of the handlebars. The only drawback is its weight, which is estimated at 65 kilos.
Cargobike, a vehicle with many advantages
Although it is difficult to categorize this vehicle, it can offer many advantages for cities.
According to Hover Store, iIs for its technical features, the Volkswagen Cargo e-Bike is equipped with two wheels at the front and also has a 0.5m3 cargo box.
Scheduled for 2019, the Volkswagen CargoBike will soon be available on the markets. Although its price has not yet been announced, its features are already appealing to people. The CargoBike can carry a payload of 210 kilos and also promises a range of 100 kilometres and a top speed of 25 kilometres per hour. Its great advantage: it has a modular part on which it is possible to attach “storage boxes”.
