Built in 1965, Studio 207, a neighbourhood cinema in the town of Taverny, in the Val-D’oise, reopened its doors thanks to political action and a buyer: Marc Dingreville. The establishment has been open since June 26, 2019 and an expansion project is planned.
A historic site
Created in the 1960s by Jacqueline Paccioni and her husband, at a time when cinema was becoming a leisure activity accessible to all, Studio 207 has seen many people pass through its two rooms. Some have even become fans of this small neighbourhood cinema, the same people who prefer the warmth and friendliness of small theatres to multiplexes. Located not far from the town hall, Studio 207 has energized the town centre of Taverny.
A tragic closure for the inhabitants
Its closure at the end of 2017 was a real heartbreak for the town’s inhabitants, according to Florence Portelli, mayor (LR) of Taverny. In its 50 years of existence, the cinema has forged close ties with its regulars. Unfortunately, in 2017, Jacqueline Paccioni was forced to close her establishment for lack of funding.
The rescue of a small neighbourhood cinema
The municipality of Taverny, especially the mayor Florence Portelli, a cinephile, could not bring herself to abandon the cinema to its fateful title. She managed to release a budget of 60,000 euros to motivate a possible buyer. She found him in the person of Marc Dingreville, already Director of the Domont cinema, who offered to buy the establishment. This request was naturally accepted by the mayor.
Due to a change of ownership, Studio 207 has been modernized in order to become once again the warm and cultural place so dear to the Tabernaciens.
The expansion project
Studio 207, which already has two rooms, could be expanded. Indeed, Florence Portelli has expressed the wish to build a third room. In addition to hosting film screenings, it could accommodate stand-up audiences.
