Apparently the 10x periscopic zoom is now the dada of smartphone brands, it can already be found on quite a few current models such as Oppo Reno 10X zoom and Huawei P30 Pro, and the list could get even longer, since it seems that Xiaomi will also integrate this technology on its next device. At least that’s what a new patent suggests. The latter reveals a camera with a periscopic lens that was validated by China’s National Intellectual Property Administration on July 2, 2019. We let you discover the details with Hexagone Mobile.
Soon a phone equipped with a x10 zoom at Xiaomi
Despite Trump’s pressure on Huawei, the P30 Pro is still one of the best Android-powered phones and the most powerful in terms of photo and video shooting. Its success is due to a technology called “zoom periscope”, which offers an X10 zoom. In fact, we could soon see this feature arrive on other smartphones like the upcoming Xiaomi. According to a patent of the latter, the periscope zoom system used seems to be identical to the one used by Huawei. By integrating such technology into its devices, Xiaomi could offer smartphones with similar performance to the Huawei P30 Pro.
Although nothing proves it for the moment, it is however very easy to guess that Xiaomi wants to compete with Huawei by offering a device with a very powerful zoom. For the moment, it’s still unclear whether the Chinese manufacturer really intends to make it happen. But if it is the case, it is very likely that it would be a top-of-the-range phone, costing around 750 euros. But since the rumours come from unofficial sources, nothing is certain yet. Moreover, it very often happens that brands like Xiaomi register a large number of patents, without necessarily using them.
Pixel 4 could also adopt a 10x zoom lens.
After Oppo and Xiaomi, it’s Google’s turn to launch a smartphone with the same technology. After the great success of the P30 Pro, manufacturers were so surprised by the power of the X10 zoom that they wanted to integrate it into all their next high-end models. On the other hand, for its next camera called “Pixel 4”, the American firm plans to work on the zoom, and is considering integrating the famous X10 zoom. Unlike its previous models, the new Pixel 4 will have several cameras on its back. According to well-informed sources, it is very likely that one of its sensors is in fact a telephoto. Therefore, by combining such cameras with its technical features, Google could very well make the buzz with its next Pixel 4.
Finally, if you want to buy a smartphone with a zoomX10, at a cheaper price, Hexagone Mobile’s advice may be to opt for the refurbished one. Not only will you come across smartphones within your reach, but also cheaper top-of-the-range models in very good condition.
